Back up hassle

I’m struggling with back ups on this website. I’ve been using UpdraftPlus (the free version), but since three weeks back ups are not properly created. After some testing, the issue seems to be the folder Uploads. It is too big to first be stored on the web server before it can be moved to external storage. However, there should be plenty of storage still available on the web server. I asked my hosting provider to see what limits are set on the server, preventing UpdraftPlus to work properly.

I started looking for other services as well. The amount of money developers ask for their plugins is high these days. Yearly subscription models are the norm. As the Man said, there is a limit to the amount of money I have available for subscriptions. This makes me wonder whether there is a different way to schedule back ups for my wordpress website. Tips are welcome.

The never ending story of tweaking a theme

Even after all these years tweaking and fiddling with WordPress themes (it’s been like, what, fifteen years?) I still can’t get over the fact it takes so long to get the CSS right, despite the gained knowledge during that time. I blame it on the ever more complicated construct that WordPress has become accompanied with complex themes to reap its benefits.
