White walls reflect a lot of light. I like lots of light, therefore the default colour we painted the walls when we moved in was white. A blank canvas to adjust to our needs once we would experience the house in variations in sunlight and seasons.
The problem that comes with the white walls in my room: direct sunlight enters a room wide window in the morning until around two in the afternoon. That covers most of my working day. I already have a curtain that is closed almost all the time, preventing at least half of the light. It doesn’t prevent lots of brightness bouncing off the wall right back on to my computer screen. And that, dear reader, is annoying when trying to work.
So finally I picked up the courage to buy some (very dark) paint and use this weekend to get rid of at least one white wall. I hope it will give me a great start in 2020.
